Counseling built for real life
Therapy that guides and supports action, and creates lasting positive change. A space that works directly off your individual values, utilizing actionable practices that can be done outside of weekly sessions, guiding you through ongoing cycles of reflection and action.
A Unique Approach
Let’s be completely honest: relying solely on a 50-minute counseling appointment once a week is a flawed approach to real, structural change.
Think of it like physical mobility. If you only stretch for one hour on a Wednesday afternoon, you might feel a bit looser when you walk out the door. But if you spend the other 167 hours of the week sitting at a desk, redlining at work, or carrying heavy physical and mental loads, you are going to tighten right back up by the time your next session rolls around.
Therapy works the exact same way. At Circle It Counseling, we believe that insight without action leads to stagnation, which is why we have a different approach.
A focus on Psychological Flexibility
One of the most evidence-based, critical mechanisms for actual success in therapy is building psychological flexibility.
This is the ability to stay grounded when your environment gets chaotic. Think of it as mental resilience, being able to adapt to life’s up and downs effectively without feeling overwhelmed or being restricted by harmful coping strategies.
Growing psychological flexibility, while taking a value-based approach allows you to pivot your behavior to align with your values instead of just reacting out of anger or exhaustion. You don't build that kind of muscle memory by talking about it once a week. You build it by actively tracking and adjusting your responses in real-time in your experience, and doing the work to adapt and improve from what you notice.
How We Do Work Outside of the Sessions
We incorporate straightforward psychoeducation, practical reading (bibliotherapy), and our signature Circle It worksheets to help you introspect and grow outside of our sessions.
This is not about adding a tedious, high-pressure task to your already overwhelming to-do list. When you are managing a demanding roster, the last thing you need is more "work".
These tools are simply a low-friction way to actively record and track your emotions, defensive stories, and obstacles as they happen in your real life.
By documenting your week and doing the work between sessions, you show up more ready, informed and focused. This allows our time together to be highly informed, insightful, effective, and productive. We don't have to guess what went wrong—we just look at the data, draw a circle around the specific problem, and get to work.
